Pepperheads are known for being a little off base, straying from the norm and just downright crazy most of the time. What makes these people tick? The great unknown is about to be revealed in a new documentary movie set for release later this year called “CrazyHot The Film.” (@CrazyHotTheFilm)
Every lover of all things hot and spicy should stop at nothing to see this film. While the average person might not witness the day-to-day lifestyles of ‘chileheads’, Filmmaker Eric Raine (@RaineEric) traveled to 3 continents to uncover the science and flat out madness surrounding the use of peppers in a multitude of ways.
Carolina Reaper vs 7 Pot Primo Debate
Names like the Carolina Reaper, Elephant Ear or 7 Pot Primo are well-known by pepper lovers although the characters behind these creations are part of what is explored in depth in the CrazyHot film.
Ed Currie, creator of PucketButt Pepper Company and Smokin Ed’s Carolina Reaper®, and Guiness Book of World Records holder for the World’s Hottest Pepper is part of the huge cast of characters appearing. ChilliDave from Clifton Chilli Club, Miranda from Chilli Pepper Pete, Michael Kurtz of Mike’s Hot Honey, David Tran, creator of Huy Fong Sriracha, various characters from the NYC Hot Sauce Expo, Steve Seabury of High River Sauces, and some totally crazy lady from India who rubs Ghost peppers in her eyes.
While feeling the burn is what some people are after, it is the science behind growing peppers that has never before been revealed to the public. How are super hot peppers grown? Eric Raine, through his documentary, takes the average person into the lives of farmers and cultivators to explain the process of growing some of the hottest peppers in the world.
“Two things you need to make it work are: water and labor,” said one farmer in the CrazyHot film.
Did you know that pure capsaicin is now being used for cancer research? Few people who consume peppers are aware of that fact. It is now more than a myth for creating super hot chilli peppers for consumption. Getting to the bottom of some of the most important questions that have been unanswered by creators of hot sauces, rubs and raw peppers is what Eric Raine’s film accomplishes.
I have not noticed any common traits among chilli freaks who are really into spicy foods. I think they come in all shapes and sizes – Michael Kurtz of Mike’s Hot Honey from Brooklyn, NY.
CrazyHot The Film: Is it Any Good?
All of the wackiness surrounding the international industry of pepper cultivation and retailing is portrayed in the new film. From what we have seen, the movie looks to be amazing and one of the most complete on the topic of super hot chilli peppers that are consumed, barfed up, praised and cussed at globally.
