Canned food… check, rock salt… check, generator… check. Nearly ready for Winter Storm Remus, but only the inexperienced winter prepper would forget the most crucial item; Iguana Jalapeno Pepper Sauce!
This Costa Rican born hot sauce is packed with enough flavor and heat to warm up any snow storm. Jalapenos are used here, along with carrots, onions, and cane sugar. This tart smelling mix provides a smooth balance of spicy vs. sweet. Vinegar is used in this sauce, however, it’s not too strong at all. The flavor of this sauce is outstanding from the second it hits your tongue, all the way until the aftertaste.
The downfall of this sauce is its use of Sodium Benzoate as a preservative. However, there are no artificial flavors or colors.
Iguana brand hot sauce boasts an iguana named ‘Iggy’ as their mascot. And for each different flavor, Iggy is wearing a different outfit on the labeling. This obviously doesn’t affect the flavor, but I love the fun look of each bottle.
This sauce successfully passed my stand-alone taste testing. When I added it to my chicken and rice casserole, it gave it that perfect zing, along with a manageable amount of heat. This sauce is also a salsa replacement; awesome on plain tortilla chips.
Overall, great tasting sauce! Pick up a bottle for yourself for a mere $4.00 and tell me what you think.
Thanks for reading!

“Here at the Bay, we think hot sauce should never be gratuitously hot, forsaking flavor. (We’ve all been there.) That’s why we created Iguana Mean Green Jalapeño Pepper Sauce, which features a very delicate balance between the moderate heat of the jalapeño pepper and its unique, fresh, “grassy” flavor.”
