Originating from the Andes region, the Manzano pepper is a variety of the hot chili pepper. This pepper is most generally used while fresh. The pepper pods are very thick skinned and do not dry well. The Manzano is a round shaped pepper that resembles a rather small apple. They have a brilliant yellow-orange color upon maturity. This fruit is rather unique, as it has black seeds that no other variety contains. Today, this species of chili pepper is mainly cultivated and harvested in Mexico. The Manzano is resistant to temperatures that are very low and will thrive at altitudes that are higher.
