The Red Savina Habanero pepper was bred to selectively produce a type of pepper that is larger in size, heavier in weight, and hotter in taste. Red Savina is a breed of the Habanero pepper family. An employee of a spice company, Franck Garcia, researched and developed the Red Savina Habanero pepper. His developmental measures are unknown. Red Savina Habanero produces twice the amount of heat that an original Habanero pepper does.

Making It Hot

Chile peppers contain various chemical compounds known as capsaicinoids. These compounds are the components of the pepper that give them the heat. Individuals will experience a burning sensation in the mouth, throat, and stomach after swallowing a bite of a Red Savina Habanero pepper. The discomfort may last from thirty to sixty minutes before it begins to subside. Some amount of the burning sensation will linger for several hours after ingestion. For many people, this pepper and others creates a laxative effect. An extreme amount of perspiration will develop, especially to the scalp area.

When cutting and chopping a Red Savina Habanero pepper, individuals should wear gloves. This not only prevents irritation of the hands, but, it prevents spreading the irritation to other parts of the body. Skin, allowed to come in contact with the pepper, will immediately begin to burn and redden. Contamination of the eyes will produce tearing and pain. To alleviate the discomfort of swallowing, a liquid with a high fat content should be drunk. The heat compound of the pepper is fat soluble. Water will not provide any relief. Contact with the skin is best treated by washing with baby shampoo or milk. Rubbing of an affected area will only cause deeper penetration of the burning sensation.
